KONY 2012 - Watch + Spread the word.

I (like many others) hadn't heard about KONY until it started trending over Twitter. Many people I knew where posting / retweeting the link of the video that had gone viral over the network in a few hours leading to the Kony 2012 website crash subsequently after it began gaining widespread popularity.

The film created by by Invisible Children, Inc. is to promote the charity's 'Stop Kony' movement to make indicted Ugandan war criminal Joseph Kony internationally known in order to arrest him.

Bournvita Quiz Contest - We WANT it back! ! Join in...

One of my fondest childhood memories can be traced back to watching 'Bournvita Quiz Contest' with my siblings. (BQC and Chitrahaar were the only two small-screen luxuries we were allowed when we were young :)) Long before Big Bachchan took to the hot seat armed with trivia's and questions, quizmaster Derek O'Brien enthralled his little audiences with GQ edu-tainment. It was a neat ploy then used by parents to get their kids to solving quizzes, engaging in reading and also extra motivation to study hard, so that we could beat each other at the mock quizzes.

With the increasing advent of 'money-over-matter' reality shows capturing the small-screen, it’s almost impossible to find anything of remote sensibility to be watched on television. This has been the increasing concern for  many who have come together and started a movement to 'Bring the BQC Back'.

What started out as something simple has now become a full on quizzing hub. People are sharing their Q&A's. Some have also come up with cool one liners - like 'Don't be Stupid, Bring BQC Back' and 'Bring Sexy Back, Bring BQC Back' which have got converted into badges and banners et al. They’ve also got Derek and Mr. Amin Sayani (the original quizster) to spread the word.

Right now, they’re working on the steps forward, but you can show your support by joining the movement. And If you have any suggestions, feedbacks, ideas for the team, shout it out.

Thinking PINK with Elle Breast Cancer Carnival

With a string of events that began in March in Delhi, moved onto Bangalore, and final leg in Mumbai on Sunday, 10th April, Elle's Breast Cancer carnival came to a glorious finale close for the year. I have been lucky to have had my brush with the cause really early (i was 18!) when I interned with Devika Bhojwani (the lady behind the cause). This served as a homecoming of sorts for me !

Having seen loved ones go thru physical-emotional distress, its unnerving that we still maintain a nonchalant attitude. After all it barely takes 15 mins to get a quick-start on detection, treatment.. So WISEN UP! & spread the word! Thankfully, the lovely ladies at Elle hope to preach just that! Held annually, with an objective to raise funds for the Tata Memorial Hospital (contribute!), the carnival aims to educate, bond, spread awareness about detection, treatments of breast cancer.

Lavasa Women's Drive '11 - Chics. Cars. Camaderie. Causes.

I had been meaning to blog about this cause forever, but in between PC crashes, erratic schedules, and other to-do's, I unfortunately didn't make it.

7:00 am. Sunday. last minute frantic calls, texts, conversations later, being the super-charged morning person that i am :D I found myself at Bandra Reclamation for the flagoff of the Lavasa Women's Drive 2011 organised annually by the Lavasa community.

After the super success of ‘The 'Fun'draiser - A Bar Night with a Twist’ held last year (see pics here), leading entertaining and marketing solution provider, KWAN, aims at inviting all to party hard and make a difference with The Guess & KWAN W.E. Rock Concert for Women’s Empowerment featuring Shaa'ir + Func and Soul Mate. Being heldon 8th March on the occassion of International Women's day, who other than the feisty Genelia D’Souza to help raise money for Akshara Centre! With her bubbly persona, ready smile and a personality that engages the entire nation, Genelia will don her philanthropic robes and raise a toast to uplifting the lives of women in need.

Her association with Akshara through KWAN is an excellent opportunity for her to connect with a social cause that has a dignified magnitude. As host for the entire evening at a popular nightclub, Genelia will personally assist in fundraising, mingle with the guests and show her solidarity towards empowering women to live a life of dignity, respect and financial independence.
