Get Heart Healthy!

This World Heart Day. Take care of your heart. - www.SaffolaLife.com

We often complain of how stressful our lives are. We pop in a tablet for headache, cold or flu. we make a fuss about the pain in the shoulder or knee or stomach. But we hardly ever pay attention to the most important of it all. The Heart works 24*7 without any respite. A tiny little beat keeps us going. We need to do our bit to keep it happy. And ITS NOT TOUGH. Simple steps, little changes can make a big difference. Afterall we owe it to our heart.

LOL. Not the chat acronym. REALLY LAUGH OUT LOUD. Lighten up. Laughter is the best medicine. Grab a dvd of your favourite comic movie. Tune into youtube, catch a rerun of your laughter sitcoms. join a laughter club.

You gotta Move it, move it!  Walk, jump rope, swim, or dance - whatever you can do, do it! However, make sure you pay equal importance to warm-ups and cool offs!

Get food smart – shun the saltshaker, mix up your greens and beans, get colorful, add a variety of veggies.

Sugar is not so sweet (for the heart!), swap it for honey or jaggery.

Raise a toast. (But just one)

Hit the snooze button – yep! You need at least 8 hrs of that precious sleep!

Go nuts. Almonds, walnuts, and other tree nuts do wonders for the heart

Doctor by the bay, can keep the heartache away – Don’t delay your doc visits. Get your regular checkups done.

Watch a scary movie. Anything that causes your heart to race – thriller flicks, good book – also makes your heart stronger

Indulge Time spent doing things to make yourself feel better, help calm the stress buds – relax, hit the beach, stare into space, go shopping (but not to an extent that the bill gets your BP rising)

Fall in love! :D

You deserve it and your heart will thank you.

DID YOU KNOW?

The human heart weighs less than a pound.

The average adult heart beats 72 times a minute; 100,000 times a day; 3,600,000 times a year; and 2.5 billion times during a lifetime.

A woman’s heart typically beats faster than a man’s does. The heart of an average man beats approximately 70 times a minute, whereas the average woman has a heart rate of 78 per minute.

Every day, the heart creates enough energy to drive a truck 20 miles. In a lifetime, that is equivalent to driving to the moon and back

Talk around Tinsel Town-
B-town is has been a little quiet possibly because of the Babri Masjid verdict which was supposed to be out last week but stands deferred to 28th Sept.

* Release dates shuffle – Anjaana Anjaani release was postponed from 24th Sept to 1st Oct to avoid clashing with the Babri Masjid verdict. However, verdict date has now been deferred to September 28th. AA will still release on 1st Oct, producers refuse to change it again! PAAN SINGH TOMAR, starring Irrfan Khan and directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, which was to hit the screens in October, has been pushed to next year.

* Though I personally feel we could have made a better choice, Peepli Live is India's nomination to the Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film 2010. Now let's hope it makes the final shortlist!

* Indian version of American dance show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ is being planned and has approached Hrithik Roshan as host.

* And for fans of the movie ‘Sarkar’, Ram Gopal Varma once again teams up with Amitabh Bachchan for Department and says the film will see the megastar playing a gangster-turned-politician.

* After roping in Chinese actor Tom Wu and singer Akon, Shahrukh Khan has roped in music composer Hans Zimmer to score music for his upcoming film “RA ONE”. Hans Zimmer has scored music for films like “The Dark Knight”, “The Da Vinci Code”, “Inception” and “Sherlock Holmes” among others.

* Getting official rights to remaking a film is becoming a trend in Bollywood. After Johar’s ‘We are Family’, Salman Khan and family has bought Malayalam Film ‘Bodyguard’. Now, Salman, Akshay & Saif are vying for rights of Telugu film ‘Don Seenu’

* Raj Kumar Santoshi's next action thriller Power was launched starring Big B, Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, and Anil Kapoor. Kangana Ranaut is being talked to for the female leads but she is yet to confirm.

* Aakrosh runs into trouble with the censor board because of derogatory remarks made against the CBI, caste, community and women. The Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) has issued a notice stipulating approximately 30 cuts within the normal run time of the film which the production house has refused.

* Manoj Kumar, will be felicitated with the Lifetime Achievement Award at MAMI's 12th Mumbai Film Festival this year.

Guzaarish first promo is out and it looks like this!

And so is the promo of Salman Khan’s BIG BOSS 4

Cine-scope this Friday! (Films releasing 1st October 2010)

* Anjaana Anjaani (Hindi) – Starring – Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra

Story of a San Francisco girl Kiara (Priyanka) and a New York City boy Akash (Ranbir) who after several attempts to achieve success in their love and career decide to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge coincidentally ending up on the same bridge. The boy convinces the girl, not to jump and they decide to go on a road trip to Las Vegas to try a final shot at lady luck.

What works: Sizzling first time pairing of Ranbir and Priyanka, which has translated well onscreen in the promos. Both actors have strong trade figures and market value. Soulful music is a hit taking top slots in many charts

What does not work: stiff competition from the other release of the week ROBOT which is seeing massive advance booking. Since the copied first posters invited lot of bad press, cannot expect a lot of novelty or intelligence in the plot, hopefully treatment will be original.

* Robot (Hindi) Enthiran (Tamil, Telugu) – Starring – Rajinikanth, Aishwarya Rai

Dr Vasi creates an andro-humanoid robot Chitti who can dance, sing, fight, is water and fire resistant. He can do all that a human can and more. He feeds on electricity. He takes instructions literally. While he has a razor sharp memory and can memorize an entire telephone directory by just running through the pages, he cannot understand human emotions. Dr. Vasi upgrades Chitti's processor and simulates human emotions without realizing the repercussions. Chitti gets transformed. He can now feel, and the first feeling that he discovers is love. Will this love come in the way of Dr. Vasi's purpose of creating Chitti? Will Dr. Vasi's own creation destroy him?

What works: Just one word ‘RAJINIKANTH’. The name in isolation is enough to set the cash registers ringing. If word is to be believed tickets in South India and US have gone out in flat 10 mins. Tickets for First day first show in some theatres are going for as high as 5000 INR (could be rumour). A popular multiplex in Chennai is expected to screen up to 60 shows a day, the highest ever for a single film in India. Top it with Rahman’s musical score and Yuen Woo Ping, action choreographer in the Matrix and Kill Bill sequels, as Endhiran’s stunt co-ordinator, the film has BLOCKBUSTER written in bold.

What does not work: The film’s biggest strength could be its weakness. The only reason the film would not work in some metros is the excessive use of VFX. The Indian audience is accustomed to seeing its heroes show brawn and fight bad guys by themselves aka Chulbul Pandey. The techno-flavored music hasn’t been very well received, so it remains to see how strong the storyline is, without which a script less sci-fi won’t work.

What’s brewing this week!

* GQ India will be having live-streaming of their Men Of Their Year awards on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 11:00 PM IST. John Travolta will be attending the event.

* Hollywood actor John Travolta arrives for a press conference to launch the limited edition of Breitling watches in Mumbai

* John Abraham starrer Jhoota hi Sahi music launch at a Mumbai mall on Sunday, September 26, 2010.

* Kaun Banega Crorepati will be launched on Sept 28th with Amitabh Bachchan addressing the media. 1st episode of KBC to go on air on Shahenshah’s birthday on 11th Oct.

* Global launch of Spain based NGO 'We are water' foundation by Shekhar Kapoor in Bombay on Sept 28th

Movie Review- Wall Street 2 'Highs and Lows, just like the stock market'

WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS - The sequel to eighties superhit ‘Wall Street’ took its time reaching the theatres (23 years!!) but couldn’t have been at a better stage, perfectly complementing the situational backdrop of the struggling stumbling world economies.

The year is 2001, a glum, older Gordon Gekko (Micheal Douglas) walks out of prison, having completed 8 years for fraud and insider trading. He is reformed, preaches stories of the hopes and the slopes of the bitter world of trading, high finance to anyone who cares to listen. He has catching-up with new-age financial lingo and patching-up with an estranged daughter Winnie (Carrie Mulligan) to do. Cut to 2008, Gordon is in the Big Apple (NYC) to promote his book ‘Is Greed Good?’ Then there’s young hot-shot trader Jake (Shia LaBeouf) who is dating Winnie, but has a hidden intent to take revenge on the venal Bretton James (Josh Brolin) who is responsible for the downfall and subsequent suicide of Jake’s mentor Lewis Zabel (Frank Langella). What happens when Gekko and Jake cross paths is the rest of the plot.

Intertwining, telling three stories of revenge, family and romance, Director Oliver Stone tries hard to measure to the scope and technicalities of the forbearer, but wobbles and loses soul in a glitzy stylish fashion. The story holds your attention but suddenly resorts to inappropriate clichés. Despite its flaws, movie does provide entertainment in edible dollops.

LeBeouf is admirable (maybe a little young) as Moore - brash, yet grounded with a straight, strong act. Michael’s performance measures up to his reputation in Part 1. Sadly, the story crams in needless father-daughter, mentor-protégé tracks going soft, losing focus on the emotions and Michael is a made to be a mere sidekick (albeit a strong one) rather than the boasting villain we yearn to see.

Verdict: Although no match to the mystique and exhilaration its predecessor, it’s an engaging watch, more-so for the number-crunching-American-dealing execs, who will smirk frown and indulge in utter relevance. However, like most things these days, when remotely connected to the words ‘WALL STREET’, it doesn’t give you your complete money’s worth. The movie has its moments, but as a Wall Street disciple, I wanted a lot more. Afterall, Greed is Good, right?!

On second thoughts: Don't miss the cheeky reference to the India outsourcing/offshoring inc business.

Go get sporty - ‘International School Sports League – Mumbai 2010'

Talk around Tinsel Town

It’s been a dramatic week at Bollywood. Some success, some celebrations and lots of controversies.

*  Success need not always be sweet. Between being bitten by Zandu Balm manufacturers for using the words in a song, the producers of Dabangg also had to hear some bitter words from who else but Mr. Ram Gopal Varma who said this –

"Since all the top film pundits and filmmakers agree that Box Office collections of a film should be the only parameter to decide who is the top, the top Directors of the industry in descending order today are Abhinav Kashyap, Raju Hirani, Prakash Jha, A.R. Murugadoss, Prabhu Deva, Rakesh Roshan, Karan Johar, Farah Khan, Sajid Khan, Aamir Khan, Aditya Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, etc etc... In case you don't know the man at the top, he used to be somewhere in 'out focus' in the background in Yuva, shooting as Mani Ratnam's some 4th assistant or something."

*Talking of RGV, all those who hate to love the man, or love to hate the man, MUST READ this http://rgvzoomin.com/how-to-kill-rgv/

* After Dabangg’s ‘BIG BANG’ release, next big thing to come down in theatres is Endhiran/Robot whose release is postponed to October 1st! For those who aren’t aware of it already, here’s a sneak peek into Rajnikanth's superstar ways – tickets for the film’s trailer! http://twitpic.com/2pakls (Pic courtesy - twitter account @AnandRanga (http://gurufilms.in/)

* Not sure what to make of this. I feel it’s got disaster written all over it - Shakira to portray Goddess Kali in an upcoming 3D movie. However, there’s no confirmation from the Diva herself, so guess we have to wait & watch.

* Rishi Kapoor is on FACEBOOK. Here is what he has to say, "I'm surprised at how many youngsters connect with me on Facebook. I sometimes suspect they want to connect with me only so they can get in touch with my son. But these kids insist they are my fans, and so are their mothers."

* Much in news for its casting troubles, Abbas Mastan’s next ‘ITALIAN JOB’ remake now titled ‘Players’ will see Sonam Kapoor in a even more SEXY avatar. The girl will fill her wardrobe with short, sexy clothes for the film and the onus of making her look hot, like never before, is on the capable shoulders of Anaita Shroff Adajania ( yes! the same lady who dressed Aishwarya for Dhoom 2).

* And the 57th National Awards Winners have been announced. Paa of bollywood takes home 4 awards, south Indian cinema gets some great recognitions. Check here to see if your favourites have made the cut.

* Talking of awards, amidst birthday celebrations last week, Shabana Azmi has another reason to be happy. She was conferred with the Taj Enlighten Tareef Award for her outstanding contribution to cinema. Earlier recipients of this award are director Mrinal Sen, screenplay writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar - Shabana's husband - and megastar Amitabh Bachchan, among others.

* After Wanted, Prabhudeva will now make his next Hindi film for Sanjay Leela Bansali with Akshay in the lead. Now that’s a deadly combination I’m waiting to see on celluloid!

* Rakhi Sawant is back in the news AGAIN by venting her fury at how women ‘use’ Salman Khan to gain publicity. "Girls just come to Salman to make their careers and once they are done with their job, they leave him." TSK TCH! now now! Practicing what you preach Rakhi?!?
