2011 Calendar roundups! Dabboo Ratnani, Southscope, Venkat Ram & Kingfisher

One thing I anxiously look forward with the New year is the launch of celeb calenders! I enjoy checking out the images and seeing what ideas/concepts they come up with yr after yr. All those following me on twitter will know how I eagerly look out for classy mag covers & jump in delight at some well taken shots & then rant up about no creativity left in photo-ops lately. I had tweeted earlier that I would do a post on the pics i liked among the 4 calenders, so here it is..but don't judge me ! im no expert & I couldn't care for lighting & other aesthetics as long as the overall output is good!

While Kingfisher sticks to its bikini beauty theme, Dabboo Ratnani has his army of celebs at disposal to shoot around. Southscope in its 2nd yr decided to go for men+girls (their theme = bratpack) as against all girls in their earlier edition. (smart thinking!). I hadn't seen any of Venkat Ram 's earlier calendar's (did he have any?) but this year's promoted by Galatta has a theme of vintage cars!

presenting you my favs, bad ones and one's that had potential... here goes..
p:s: I have stopped short of including Kingfisher because it doesn't feature celebs, but i'll do a quick mention of the pics i liked in another post!..

(click/right-click on pics to enlarge)
Hot - Let's frame these for good!

Kajal Agarwal for Southscope - (hate the hair! hate the wallpaper) but she looks oh-soo-regal! a pic that could have been way too posey, but Kajal aces it up with her strong demeanor & body language! "move aside common people, i'm here to rule" WIN!

Bipasha Basu for Dabboo Ratnani - possibly done a million times before, but who's complaining? the 'just out of bed' + 'come hitherto' look works like a charm on Bips! *Double thumbs up*

Saif Ali Khan for Dabboo Ratnani - morning after with an indifference or no-recollection of the night before. Who better than chote nawaab to don the dashing contentious look coupled with no-regrets calm! & the ring on the wedding finger = perfect score.

Nagarjuna for Venkat Ram - the KING & his chariot awaits! And i love it more because it captures his sheer nonchalance to the camera!

Shriya Saran for Venkat Ram - Shriya, you hotness! looks alluring, dominating, independent, glamorous "who needs you boys, i'll just take care of it all by myself"

Plain bad - no two-ways

Ranbir Kapoor for Dabboo Ratnani - I would probably have winced if i was given one more bare-chested Ranbir, but that works miles ahead of this! Not really sure what's going on here but the clenching of chains between teeth is plain OUCH!

Genelia for Venkat Ram- Its more the stylist that makes the model and the prop look completely disjointed. theme is a fail and why does poor gene get to dress up like a harassed worn-out maid while the rest got into more royal get-ups? Cindrella & step-sisters, anyone? unf!

Rana for Southscope - He looks bored, he looks mad, the one sleeve jacket looks sloppy, (slung it on shoulder might have worked better?!) . Overall a good model wasted! Double hot mess!

Aishwarya for Dabboo Ratnani - EEKS! When do you look at beauty & cringe? THIS is a clear example of how you make beauty look creepy and wacky! arms-less-ness, extra photoshopped, shy-shooting eyebrows = horror!
Dabboo's explanation : Her arms are not visible in the picture to give the page a statue bust look. err! ok! whatever! tip: leave this edginess to Kangana, she's a natural at it.

Had the potential, but just didn't click!

Allu Arjun for Southscope - This pic made me feel uneasy from the first time I saw it. Everything worked for it but overall it exuded a 'lonely on top' feeling. Instead, Bunny standing on the dome, wind in his hair, holding the frame by his fingertip and a quirky grin saying 'I own the world' would have made me like the pic a tad bit more!

Nag Chaitanya for Southscope - clearly IMO one of his personal best, there's something hugely compelling about this image, but it's incomplete..Firstly is it a little tilted or uploaded incorrectly? and why isn't there a reflection. can't point out exactly how, but its just a pic i want to stare at, knowing its half done, but hoping i'll find what it is that's missing.

Asin for Dabboo Ratnani - It's a cute pic (maybe a little chick flickish) + Im a Asin fan..! but the image gives you a instant smile first and a frown almost immediately because it looks highly contrived, trying to hard to be effortless but forced! Give me a broken down car next to her, spilt bag contents with a few assistants around, would have been explainable.

Check out the rest of the pics from the calenders at Southscope, Dabboo Ratnani, Venkat Ram & Kingfisher.
