Wedding Bells: PrithviRaj ties the knot with Supriya Menon.

Its OFFICIAL! Malyalam Superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran is hitched and the lucky lady is BBC journalist Surpiya Menon. While speculations began around a month back about the supposed nuptials, fans were taken aback when the news broke early morning on 25th April, that the couple had already tied the knot. The wedding was held in Thenkurissi Kandaath Heritage Villa in Palakkad which happens to be the bride’s hometown. It was a low-key private affair attended by less than 50 of the couple’s close family members and friends.

The couple met some (?!) years ago, when Supriya was researching South Indian Cinema. A grand reception has been planned at Le Meridien on May 1st for friends and acquaintances from the fraternity.

They make a super cute couple, dontcha think?? Best Wishes to the couple.

Bournvita Quiz Contest - We WANT it back! ! Join in...

One of my fondest childhood memories can be traced back to watching 'Bournvita Quiz Contest' with my siblings. (BQC and Chitrahaar were the only two small-screen luxuries we were allowed when we were young :)) Long before Big Bachchan took to the hot seat armed with trivia's and questions, quizmaster Derek O'Brien enthralled his little audiences with GQ edu-tainment. It was a neat ploy then used by parents to get their kids to solving quizzes, engaging in reading and also extra motivation to study hard, so that we could beat each other at the mock quizzes.

With the increasing advent of 'money-over-matter' reality shows capturing the small-screen, it’s almost impossible to find anything of remote sensibility to be watched on television. This has been the increasing concern for  many who have come together and started a movement to 'Bring the BQC Back'.

What started out as something simple has now become a full on quizzing hub. People are sharing their Q&A's. Some have also come up with cool one liners - like 'Don't be Stupid, Bring BQC Back' and 'Bring Sexy Back, Bring BQC Back' which have got converted into badges and banners et al. They’ve also got Derek and Mr. Amin Sayani (the original quizster) to spread the word.

Right now, they’re working on the steps forward, but you can show your support by joining the movement. And If you have any suggestions, feedbacks, ideas for the team, shout it out.

Movie Review: TeenMaar (Telugu) *Pawan Kalyan, Trisha, Kriti Kharbanda

Apart from my usual language disclaimer, may I add a second note here, that I have as much as possible refrained from comparing TeenMaar to its original Love Aaj Kal. However is some references are delved upon, request the reader to accept it without being judgmental.

When I first heard about ‘Love Aaj Kal’ remake in Telugu, I was clearly intrigued. Though the original was a box-office hit, it received some flak because not many people warmed up to the concept of ‘practical romance’ wherein breaking up, patching, moving on etc was as casual as any other hobby. Also with 2 narratives of different timelines running parallel, intertwined with each other, was a tough job to keep the viewer constantly attentive and engaged. So my first thought was - is the comparatively reserved South-Indian audience ready for this kind of cinema. Will Director Jayanth and Trivikram be able to do a satisfactory job at getting the local audience to accept this modern day ‘practical’ love-story? I think they do. And they do a good job at it.

Movie Review - "Dum Maaro Dum" - 'Goa'ing HIGH ! !

An A-lister, A southern hottie (whom women are lusting after), a critically acclaimed supporting actor (who's become camera's darling), Hot-Bod in mini skirts, item song, sex, scandal and sea. All the ingredients perfectly picked to make a successful commercial MASALA flick. Can't possibly go wrong or CAN IT?

Dum Maaro Dum traces the lives of its three male leads, from three different strata, against the edgier side of the tourist hub otherwise portrayed famously for sunbathing and cocktail-sipping. DJ Joki (Rana Daggubati) hanging to the pasts of a failed relationship with girlfriend Zoe (Bipasha Basu), who bait the drug laden trap for greed of dollars and a high flying career. Joki doesn’t want history repeated and is determined to prove the innocence of Lori (Prateik) the scapegoat, caught in the rough of a failed drug-trade. Bad-cop turned-good ACP Vishnu Kamath (Abhishek) is on a mission to clean up ‘Drugs Ka Disneyland’ Goa. On suspicion is businessman-cum-philanthropist Lorsa Bisquita aka “Biscuit” (Aditya Pancholi) who is known to have Goa-vaasi’s in his pocket. Not enough as there’s a Godfather of drug traders (Micheal Barbossa) lurking in the shadows. The mystery – Who is Micheal Barbossa? The goal - Pin the drug-king!

Thinking PINK with Elle Breast Cancer Carnival

With a string of events that began in March in Delhi, moved onto Bangalore, and final leg in Mumbai on Sunday, 10th April, Elle's Breast Cancer carnival came to a glorious finale close for the year. I have been lucky to have had my brush with the cause really early (i was 18!) when I interned with Devika Bhojwani (the lady behind the cause). This served as a homecoming of sorts for me !

Having seen loved ones go thru physical-emotional distress, its unnerving that we still maintain a nonchalant attitude. After all it barely takes 15 mins to get a quick-start on detection, treatment.. So WISEN UP! & spread the word! Thankfully, the lovely ladies at Elle hope to preach just that! Held annually, with an objective to raise funds for the Tata Memorial Hospital (contribute!), the carnival aims to educate, bond, spread awareness about detection, treatments of breast cancer.

Gitanjali Lifestyle Chennai International Fashion Week Season 3

"Fashion weeks are like our film awards, there are too many of them," said designer Tarun Tahiliani in his interview

Not everyone at Gitanjali Lifestyle and fashionistas seem to agree, as fashion celebrations continue.. after enticing fashion scenes in Mumbai first & Delhi in the week gone-by, it moves on to the city of Chennai. In its third year, the Chennai International Fashion Week Season 3 is gearing up for a 3-day spectacle commencing with an event on 14th April and concluding on Saturday, the 16th April 2011.

At a glittering ceremony held at Hotel Ambassador Pallava, Chennai over the weekend, the names of participating designers and sponsors associated with the event were announced.

Gitanjali Lifestyle CIFW3 will showcase creations of 13 designers, 4 titled shows with more than 50 models walking the ramp. In addition, a special Galatta anniversary show scheduled for 14th April promises to feature several young and successful stars of Kollywood.

IPL Season 4: Who is your favourite of them all?

With Dhoni & Co. having lifted the precious World Cup, almost everyone across the country is suffering from cricket hangover's or withdrawal symptoms. It only helps that IPL (Indian Premier League) madness begins in less than 24 hrs and franchises, players, sponsors seem to be in a mad rush transiting between venues organizing launches, parties, the works! !

Meanwhile, ensuring the current festive mood of the country isn't compromised upon, Wizcraft-organized opening ceremony on 8th April in Chennai is expected to have a spectacular dazzling dose of entertainment courtesy performances by SRK (his team KKR plays the 1st match there), Sunidhi Chauhan, Kunal Ganjawala and Akriti Kakar among some others.

Though after the splendid unified performance of Team India at WC, I'm a little perturbed to see the boys pitted against each other. the opening matches over this weekend will see Chennai (Dhoni) take on KKR (Gambhir), Pune (Yuvraj) v/s Punjab (Piyush Chawla) & Mumbai (SRT) v/s Delhi (Sehwag).
So in all fairness I'm not supporting any particular team & will cheer for everyone in general :) as a wise man said, may the best team win!

Who are you supporting this IPL season?

Cricket World Cup 2011 is ours! Bowled, Caught , and Locked!

As I sit down to write this, it’s close to almost 48 hours since Dhoni & Co. laid their hands on the gleaming trophy of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. 28 long years, it took for the trophy to makes its return back to INDIA, since our last win in 1983 (leaded by Kapil Dev). My parents tried hard to paint a picture of that moment, but it was seven seas across at Lords, England then. So even they could not have been encompassed by the hodgepodge of emotions that was felt by billions on the night of 2nd April 2011.

02nd April 2011. 2:00 pm IST. INDIA started the day with high optimism. They were everyone's clear favorites. Consistent. Fearless. Vigilant. Playing on home ground, they could count on 30k+ people cheering, motivating them to play on. It's a huge booster all that cheering, 'Jai Ho', ‘Chak De’ chants, it injects intensity in the player, keeps the momentum from dipping.

"The day before the final we knew were going to win. We actually even spoke into it. That we were going to win this thing. There was never any doubt" - Coach Gary Kirsten
