With a string of events that began in March in Delhi, moved onto Bangalore, and final leg in Mumbai on Sunday, 10th April, Elle's Breast Cancer carnival came to a glorious finale close for the year. I have been lucky to have had my brush with the cause really early (i was 18!) when I interned with Devika Bhojwani (the lady behind the cause). This served as a homecoming of sorts for me !
Having seen loved ones go thru physical-emotional distress, its unnerving that we still maintain a nonchalant attitude. After all it barely takes 15 mins to get a quick-start on detection, treatment.. So WISEN UP! & spread the word! Thankfully, the lovely ladies at Elle hope to preach just that! Held annually, with an objective to raise funds for the Tata Memorial Hospital (contribute!), the carnival aims to educate, bond, spread awareness about detection, treatments of breast cancer.
Decked in hues of pink & their traditional pinstripes, the Taj Ballroom made for a perfect set-up to indulge in tarot-reading, numerology, play games, exchange notes, get playful with nail art by Paws & Claws, pamper with massages courtesy Jean Claude Biguine. For shopaholics, designer booths were laden with steals of Nandita Mahtani, Malini Ramani, Ritu Kumar. Neeta Lulla, Ranna Gill & Satya Paul. A silent auction offered treats from the house of Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Burberry, Salvatore Ferragamo, etc proceeds of which would be in the aid of the cause. The highlight was the Elle photo studio where everyone could pose for their very own Elle Cover.
Fabulous afternoon for a good cause, fabulous turn-out & props to Elle team for yet another successful event.
p:s: while we are on the subject, on a parallel tangent, if you get a chance do try & catch 'Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy' a true-life bio of a cancer survivor. It's quite an engaging & spirited movie. :) Also visit the site for stories, anecdotes, forums etc shared by survivors, loved ones, those who found their way to a second chance of life.
