The New Year is upon us which marks the dawn of cinema awards frenzy in Bollyland. In between all the expected ones & very few unexpected ones, it’s about the films but hardly ever fair! Power awards are given so that the AC in the hall is running, choreographed latkas, matkas & definitely lots of jhatkas, seeti-taali in full sync, and if ever king’s & their men don’t fit in any category, simple solution - new category is created so that Khan & Kapoor take home a mandatory award or two! While we, the mango people muse over how & when did the beautiful black lady lose her morals!Despite hullabaloo all last year that moneybags of Bollywood are going creatively bankrupt, big names making bigger losses, small films Udaan, LSD, Do Dooni Chaar deserve more than consolation mentions, it’s truly appalling that Golmaal3 is nominated for Best Movie, Sajid Khan is nominated Best Director, & Akshay Kumar is nominated for Best Actor.
But darling ye hai India, we are tho kickass like that only and we almost always find our way out! So to appease cine buffs who are jaded with starry nights & red carpet mockeries, Twitter users led by Nikhil Taneja & Fight Club have started an initiative called ‘TWEEPLES FILM AWARD’ to praise all those deserving works that audience truly believes!
The deal is simple - a jury is formed consisting of prominent critics (not those lost on aadarsh & Natkhat K types) plus passionate film buffs aka common man like you & me, who will through a completely transparent voting system decide winners in pre-decided categories! It’s all happening virtually & everyone is invited to be a part of it! Sorry there isn’t any fancy ceremony & you won’t be invited to watch Sheila or Munni perform plus no-one gets any real awards to take home, though I’m sure the boys at Twi-fi (yes! that’s what we call ‘em) will be more than happy with any donations in cash & kind! It’s just our way to put a good word out there & let the good guys know they are loved & appreciated, cause let’s be honest who doesn’t like a compliment or two! Like the boys at Twifi say ‘We are doing this for the love of good cinema and not the hatred of bad ones!’
